Associate positions are work-partnerships with colleagues that are established in their field of expertise, and that bring their knowledge and experience to the team in various ways.
Our Research Associate contributes by assisting with designing projects, communicating with partners, mentoring students, acquiring grants/funding, analyzing data and writing reports and/or papers for publication. Graduate students working on a thesis related to 8Trees projects are co-supervised by our Research Associate.
Our Associate Habitat Restoration Biologist contributes by mentoring beginner-level Biologists, Field Assistants/Technicians and students, carrying out data collection/ecological field applications - especially when specialized to their field of expertise, communicating with partners, and assisting with project design and report writing.
Our Biologists hold either junior (BIO I) or senior (BIO II) positions, depending on the persons experience and qualifications. They will usually be the lead on one or two major research projects that the company has acquired funding for. All Biologists will work together with the field technicians on other ongoing company projects as necessary, including consultant work and outreach events.
Our Field Technicians hold either junior (TECH I) or senior (TECH II) positions, depending on the persons experience and qualifications. Duties for these positions include assisting or leading the field data collection tasks for various projects, taking detailed notes/photos, data entry and organization, equipment maintenance, and assisting with communications to the team and volunteers when necessary.
This position is for staff with a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in biology, ecology, or other related field, with experience in science communication, budget management, staff/personnel management, and project coordination. The AAB will work to ensure all funding applications, permit applications, final reports and work contracts are kept on schedule and submitted by deadlines. They will also ensure all protocols are in line with permits, staff paperwork are in order, and will work to maintain the company website and news blog, and coordinate staff meetings or events where appropriate.
This position is for staff with experience collecting data, researching using library and other online resources, organizing files in a database and conducting public outreach. The SMC will assist the AAB with communications, especially using social-media and other scientific communication platforms as necessary, and will assist in coordinating any outreach events.
The Outreach Illustrator is part of our outreach team, and works to design logos, activity books, stickers, t-shirts, and other products for the company.
Student positions are part of our Student Mentorship Program, which are fully-funded or partially-funded positions supported by Young Canada Works, ECO Canada, and other reputable sources.
