8Trees works in collaboration with the NPCA, Six Nations of the Grand River, Nature Conservancy Canada, and other partners to return the Wainfleet Bog on a path towards restoration. The research aspect of this work is funded through the Species at Risk Program (SARP) in Ontario. 8Trees focuses on the restoration of the Wainfleet bog as it provides critical habitat to several species at risk, including the Massasauga rattlesnake. We conduct research and population monitoring of Fowler's toads throughout the Niagara Region and assist with the research occurring in Long Point, Ontario. Funds for this project come from a variety of sources, including SARP (2018-2020), and through funded projects at McGill University. (Active)

This project was funded through SARP (2020-2021) to complete the initial coverboard placement, habitat surveys and habitat suitability modeling. Data continues to be collected today through our Citizen Science Coverboard study. (Active)

8Trees works in collaboration with the project lead, Natural Resource Solutions Inc. (NRSI), to study the landscape and create hibernation sites for species-at-risk snakes on Pelee island.

8Trees Inc. supports student learning by sponsoring student-lead academic STEM conferences, hiring co-op students from various colleges and universities, and co-supervising graduate student research projects. 

8Trees started participating in the Wainfleet Fall Fair in 2018 and continues to strive to participate in such events to promote education and citizen science activities related to biological research and ecological restoration.

8Trees participated in the very first Mother Earth Day Event, held at Fireman's Park on June 11th 2022. We plan to continue to participate in this event as much as we can in the future.

Our Biologists are often invited to give presentations to local nature clubs. The theme is usually related to our ongoing research in Wainfleet Bog, or general educational information such as learning how to identify species-at-risk in the Niagara Region.

Our Biologists are sometimes invited to give presentations to elementary or high school classes, especially when the annual Envirothon event is approaching. The presentations may be tailored to the interests of the class or kept general about local environmental issues and species-at-risk.
